The community served by CACLV since 1965 spans two counties and a diversity of cultures. Two of our programs, Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley and Northeast Pennsylvania and the Energy Partnership extend their services into additional counties: Carbon, Monroe, Pike, and Wayne for the Food Bank; and Carbon, Monroe, Pike, Bucks, and Montgomery for the Weatherization Program of the Energy Partnership.
At the time of the 2000 Census, Lehigh County had a population of 312,090 and Northampton County of 267,066, for a total Lehigh Valley population of 579,156. The services of CACLV and those of its subsidiaries are based in the cities, where poverty is most prevalent. Between 1990 and 2000 the percentage of the population below the poverty level increased by 17% in Easton, 43% in Allentown, and 50% in Bethlehem.
