Allentown’s downtown is thriving due to recent revitalization and investment in the business district, but without healthy neighborhoods and a thriving community, the efforts to reinvigorate the business and entertainment offerings along and immediately adjacent to Hamilton Street will not reach their full potential. Upside Allentown is a Neighborhood Partnership Program (NPP) aimed at building on the momentum created by recent redevelopment efforts in downtown Allentown that will benefit the neighborhoods directly adjacent to downtown.
CADCB believes that thriving neighborhoods must include parks and physical assets that bring residents and visitors together, as well as clean, safe, and attractive commercial districts. Since the organization was founded, CADCB has played a central role in expanding green space through the construction of the South Bethlehem Greenway, the Bethlehem Skateplaza, the Yosko Splash Park, Tranquility Park, and Lopes International Park, all in south Bethlehem.
Slate Belt Rising(SBR) is a neighborhood revitalization initiative designed to integrate and capitalize on the substantial assets of the individual Slate Belt communities. By leveraging the unique history, architecture, and culture of each municipality into a regional approach, SBR will use a Neighborhood Partnership Plan to foster comprehensive community and economic development. While SBR specifically targets the boroughs of Bangor, Wind Gap, Pen Argyl, and Portland, some initiatives promote development and the coordination of services for the entire region.
